I am honored that I have been given the responsibility of leading a Club with such a glorious past and promise all of you that I will give it my best effort. I would like to ensure that the good work of our Club is continued so that we can realise our vision “to be a Happy Club”.
The theme for this year is “Rotary Serving Humanity” and in the words of RI President John F. Germ “I believe everyone recognizes the opportunity to serve Rotary for what it truly is: not a small opportunity, but a great one; an opportunity of a lifetime to change the world for the better, forever through Rotary’s service to humanity.”
RI President John’s dream is for us to change the world for the better, forever through Rotary’s service to humanity in these twelve months.
Our Club will celebrate the 20th birthday in October 2016. Together with the young blood from our community based Rotaract Club, Interact Club and Adopted Schools, we can do more work to improve the lives of the less fortunate. Through the cooperation with our sister clubs in Perth and Taipei, we can join hands to work on projects beyond HK. We also recognize that as we grow we need to continue to work to keep our members engaged and energized. This year our programmes and activities while maintaining the ongoing worthwhile youth related projects, we shall extend our services to the seniors and families with a view to promoting a harmonious society.
Being a Rotarian is about the people we help. At the end of the day, the only thing that matters in Rotary is how much better the world becomes because Rotary is in it, because we made a difference! Complacency will set Rotary back. That’s why it isn’t enough for any of us to just go through the motions, to show up at our club meetings, to show up at an event to do the minimum needed just enough to be noticed and no more. I therefore wish to urge you all to attend club meetings regularly and recommit some more time to our projects and fellowship activities.
RI President John F. Germ’s dream is for us to change the world for the better, forever through Rotary’s service to humanity. I have joined an exclusive club of leaders in our community. I understand both the faith that you have put in me and the responsibility that I have to you, Happy Valley, and the global community. I welcome the challenge and want to thank all of you for the trust you have shown in me.
